Project
Since the beginning of 2022, with the offices of Eberbach Monastery the first cultural monument of European rank has been intelligently heated. In the former Cistercian abbey built in 1752, the self-learning thermostats from vilisto adapt the heating behaviour fully automatically to the actual use of the room. One of the main goals of the monestary’s foundation’s work is the preservation and development of the historical building substance – due to its protection status, vilisto is therefore the optimal measure to increase energy efficiency, as the integration of digital heat management does not require any structural changes.

Result
Despite the thick walls, the wireless connection between the thermostats and the gateways works perfectly. These transfer the heating data to the online platform, where the maximum temperature is limited to 24 degrees in order to further reduce consumption. Thanks to online weather data as well as the learned usage behaviour, the office rooms are preheated in time, so that 30.4% heating costs, CO2 emissions and energy are saved without any loss of comfort.
